If we don't need more than 150, there's no point in adding to the total. I only want 10 so the others can come off my total:

    Massdriver - 10 Wheels (quattroforum)
    LYT4X - 25 Wheels (quattroforum)
    G60Rallye - 4 Wheels (quattroforum)

    SorenR - 5 Wheels (quattroforum)
Raymor - 5 Wheels (classic audi forum)
    Gazjen - 5 Wheels (quattroforum)
    Jade - 5 Wheels (S2Forum)
Huge Euge - 4 Wheels (quattroforum)
    Puglife - 4 Wheels (S2forum)
    SteveT63- 5 Wheels (classic audi)
D Jenks- 5 Wheels (classic audi)
    Robo - 5 Wheels (S2forum)

They can do any wheel - however I spoke to them today and the tooling for a new production run and the x raying and testing comes out at £8.5k so if we going to do this it need sto be a large confirmed volume.

Now I need to get them the technical spec and preferably a rim to copy which will also end up being chopped to measure x sections

It certainly appears viable at these numbers

I am a bit confused by your post Rick? Does that mean that there is an extra 8.5k to split into each of the 150 wheels? Or did the original price you posted of £120 cover this?

To clarify the manufacturer has advised that they would require £8,500 in one off tooling costs to produce this design of wheels, so for example if we wanted the same pattern in 3 sizes the cost would be similair per range.

Overall if the order size keeps rising it will have the effect of spreading the cost but it is an additional cost that was not clear in my original discussions

Break it down into cost per wheel including any add on bits and bobs Rick so there is no ifs and buts when you need to proceed further

guess it must have been a silly question as it didnt get any reply,or maybe i am invisible ,

So that adds £57 to the cost of each wheel if split between 150. Not too bad compared to what Speedline wanted to make the tooling for the magnesium rally wheels.

One thing to clarify though if the inital batch of people are going to cover that tooling cost do we get ownership of it? We dont want to pay for it then have other people getting wheels off the company at a later date for a lot less than we paid.

    Thats correct
  13. LYT4X Member

What's correct? Who said that??? I can't see anyone...... :D

Given the new price level not to mention shipping to this side of the pond the 16x9 Compomotives look way more attractive.
    Sorry, but I am out.

    Thank you

Before anybody (else) jumps the gun, can we please wait until Rick has come here and said exactly what it's going to cost us. I've not seen anything hard and fast yet and already people are leaving.
  17. ralleyquattro Member

My choice was a borderline, 57GBP is a substantial increase (and sounded pretty "hard and fast").
I'll monitor the discussion and if the number improves a lot I'll reconsider.

    Thank you
  18. rick Member

The tooling cost is a fixed cost regardless or the wheel numbers, we were not originally quoted that as my original discussion was around wheels that they already had in production eg a range for VW transporter and Rangerover Sport wheels.

For a specialised production run the tooling cost is fixed, but naturally becomes cheaper per wheel according to how many you spread them across!

On the subject of size this quote is for ONE size of wheel, so lets be clear what we want here!!

The final price will be dependant on the initial number of units, under 100 its not worth the bother.
It wont go ahead if theres insufficient numbers and I dont intend to waste much time on the project if its looking not to be viable

Still, even if the wheels are £120+57 = £177 each, it's still not a bad price. Try going to the dealer and asking how much new wheels would be for an A6 r the like......

New 8" wheels back in the 1980's were something in the region of £140+VAT each. I'd suspect that the 9" rims were a lot more

I think when you look properly into buying the comps you will find out that they are the best part of 2k euros as they are only available from Ihle motorsport and compomotive wont sell them direct to you.
