I believe there was some change to retail law some while back. The onus is now on the retailer to prove that the item was perfect at the point of sale and not for the customer to prove that it wasn't. You may still be well within your rights for a refund/exchange.
I'd give your local trading standards folk a ring to clarify - they've always been helpful in my experience.

the problem is is that Magnecor are saying that the leads were damaged after they left the factory...with that many pinpricks/splits in them, it isn't a manufacturing fault. I can't proove that these leads came to me like this. I can't proove that the leads were ok when they came to me. kinda gonna have to take this on the chin......

I think it's a fact that most manufacturers initially try to ''tough it out'' with the consumer because 95% cave in at the first hurdle. |

Plug cap - 5 kohm (plug caps are often marked with this). Lead - no measureable resistance Distributor connector - 1 kohm Total lead 6 kohm - usually very slightly less on new leads. I'm not aware of any specification for the "king lead". Another thing to check is the carbon brush in the centre of the cap - it should make contact with the centre of the rotor arm and there should be a visible wear patch. As always, there's always something new - a recent stumble/misfire was caused by a missing tensioning spring inside the rotor arm - the one that keeps it straight on the distributor shaft. ...this is now getting very silly....
received my leads back from Magnecor today...fully repaired....with 4 new ends - at a cost of £25!!...anyway... I fitted them this afternoon..guess what?...MISFIRE!!!! so i went through the usual routine of replacing each lead in turn till the misfire went away.....this time it was lead #4!.....so replaced it with the one that i have been using for the past 5 weeks, went for a drive - everything fine. Decided i would send the 'repaired set' back to Magnecor so took them off and put back on the replacement set that i have on without a hitch for the past 5 weeks....guess what? MISFIRE!!!! how the hell can that happen?????!!!! - unless i really screwed up and put the wrong lead on the wrong outlet of the dizzy cap!...but then would the car run?.....it does tickover and it drives - its just a bit lumpy at low revs. gonna replace the plugs with my spare set in the morning... any ideas? Mark
