According to the TFA, your airflow meter should be 035 133 471A , B or F depending on engine type and year.

To be honest I got the Audi number from the APT website - the actual number on the part is 060 132 638 041 ... which doesn't look right but it's the only other number apart from the Bosch one. Incidentally my air flow meter causes the car to idle unevenly, there appears to be nothing wrong with it - anyone any idea why it doesn't work properly?

It's all about pressure and flow.
First determine that the engine is ok mechanically - do a compression / leakdown test. Pull the dipstick up slightly with the engine running - does it stumble or stall? Remove oil filler cap when running - does it stall then? Then make absolutely sure there are no air leaks - including in any of the small diameter vacuum hoses - if it's a quattro, these include the hoses to the diff lock controls and the diff lock actuators on the gearbox / rear diff. Check for leaks in the hose to the ecu. Check the fuel system pressure at the entry to the metering head. Pull the injectors and make sure the injector inserts are tight in the head. Put the injectors in suitable measuring containers, jumper the fuel pump and lift the air metering plate. Check the injector spray patterns and check for even quantity from each injector. Replace the injectors with new large green O rings (where they push into the inserts). Is the mixture / idle speed set correctly? Has someone adjusted the throttle end stop screw (supposed to be factory set). It's not a long shot, a 1982 vintage 2144cc Turbo is a WR engine, or very similar, so you can probably get a recon metering head from Pete Reeve at quattrocorner.com - but do some investigation first, as you probably don't need one IMO. |

I was told by the dealer that the injectors would come with seals (which I knew wasn't right). To be honest I just wanted to get them in so didn't order new seals. I'm using a metering head and airflow meter off another car (the same car), it's very possible it has been fiddled with. The car actually runs very well however the revs do rise and fall slightly - it did turn down the revs as it was too high. Starting in not good - it's not flooding but it has to be turned over for about 15 seconds before it starts?? Replaced components are - fuel lines, pump and injectors (all new), the rest has been serviced (swapped). I don't think there are any vacuum leaks though it can be very hard to spot a small one. I may possible have put the bi-metalic strip the wrong way round in the warm up regulator but this is unlikely....

ours is a missing quite a bit at points due to these seals.
