Hiya,

In the past i've found the auto check system eratic which can flash up alsorts of messages, i've found it is usually due to a 'dry joint' or cracked solder joint on the circuit board on the auto check system its self. Thats the board behind the clocks. You'll need to get someone who is reasonable with a soldering iron to remove and reflow new solder to ALL joints. I did the same to mine 2 years ago, never had a false warning since!!!

Ktr, have a look on my (sadly neglected) site www.audi200.org.uk and go to the technical area. There you will find a pdf relating to fault finding of the autocheck system.

I'd agree with Dave in that dry solder joints on the instrument cluster printed circuit board are the usual culprits (btdt) but worth going through the correct procedure if you can.

Other than the aforementioned possible causes, I'd also say that audi wiring has a tendency for the outer wire sleeve to go brittle and crack, allowing moisture in and corrosion of the copper strand inside, or even just too much verdigris on the connectors at the pressure switches where they are crimped onto the wire.

Hope that helps.

Anyone got a 1B 200 Avant for sale anywhere?
