Default strut tops

im currently in the middle of replacing the whole bushings on my car (90 quattro type 89) and the front strut tops were painted black in the steel cup which i can find no reference to anywhere even tho they have vw audi on them and even stranger was that i found blue strut tops in the rear, which as far i understand were only ever fitted to the ur-quattro, they have less noise damping as far as i can gather since they are bout 2 or 3 mm shorter thus they have less give, either way im replacing them since the bearing has fallen out of the cup. hope the green strut tops iv got will be adequate

anyone have any insight into the various strut tops used?

i was going to blame the strut tops for all the road noise and then went back down to the car and spun the hub, ouch, it was one the roughest wheel bearing iv felt that still had its seals.

i have already repalaced the front bearing one last year and the other this weekend so back needs doing and by the amout on road noise there has been in her the rear been needed doing for about 3 years
anyway the new bearing press has now paid for its self for sure, its done 4 quattro bearings, one coupe gt bearing and 2 mini bearings

what is really strange is the car only done 90k, which i would have thought was abit early for bearings on an audi... also needs to front joint as they are fairly loose but not clicking so ill leave them for a month or two

can anyone say money pit! only joking rant over

When I was breaking my old S2 it also had blue top mounts at the rear.

Im led to understand that the blues are NLA? ....... Fittted quite a few of the greens on my S2 with Bilstein inserts and never had any bother with them on or off the track.

Blue ones are still available. No supply problems whatsoever. And they are better to drive on than the green ones.

well had bring my sister to belfast (80 mile away) so decided to try gsf for the rear wheel bearings, no luck they only stocked the newer bearing with two different centre bores...

so blue would be the choice if you were going performance (like everyone here), hum thats food for thought might have get another set of strut tops
